If in the East Beach/Ocean View area of Norfolk, stop into COVA Brewing Company for coffee or a cold craft brew and a bite to eat. A great venue located right in the middle of the fast growing and fast changing East Beach area, COVA is unique to the brewery scene serving as a coffee shop in the mornings and a brewery/taphouse in the afternoons and evenings. Open 7:00 AM weekdays and 8:00 AM weekends, it’s a great place to grab a cup of coffee either before or after an early morning walk on East Beach.  With both inside and outside seating, COVA is perfect larger groups or during any season. The outdoor area is expansive and offers seating in the shade or sun and is also pet friendly.

As for the beer, the serving system is a bit unique and is “self-serve”. Enter the Tap room and open a credit card tab to obtain a “house card” which allows you to pour your own beer and wine. Each tap has a screen that gives you detail on the beer or wine you’ll be pouring and becomes operable via your house card. You are then charged by the ounce for each pour, with the volume and price also showing on the tap screen. There are approximately 15 beer taps as well as a lesser amount of wine taps. Associates are on hand should you need help with the pour system or if you have questions on the types of beer available. Under each tap are glasses of various sizes allowing you to pour the amount of beer or wine you desire. Flight boxes are also available to allow you to pour your own flight. Prices vary for the beers and for a 16 oz draw, you should expect to pay in the same range as if someone was pouring the beer for you.

Rotating Food Trucks provide the food and they are present virtually every evening from 4:00 PM on (noon on the weekends). Check the Cova Brewing Company website for the schedule and times.

The overall experience is very good particularly if you go with friends on a sunny afternoon during spring or fall. The beer is average at best but the food trucks are outstanding and the atmosphere inviting. COVA is new on the scene and without question the quality of the beer will improve. For now, it’s worth a visit just to relax and enjoy a nice afternoon or evening.
