One of the better breweries that have been popping up lately in the Norfolk/Va Beach area is the Bold Mariner, open since 2016. Bold Mariner is located in the Ocean View/East Beach area and has developed a faithful local following through its offering of quality beers and a tasty food menu built on smoked meats. Across Ocean View Ave from the beach, the brewery has a location perfect for enjoying quality beer after a day in the sun. The brewery boasts indoor and outdoor seating in a relaxed atmosphere, is dog friendly, and has a staff knowledgeable about their beers and the local beer scene.
One of the best breweries in Norfolk Every beer above average or better
The Founder and President is a Navy Veteran and the Mariner theme runs through out the Breweries offerings. Beers with names like CPO IPA, a shout out to Chief Petty Officers, and another called Frogman Lager, a shout out to Navy SEALS are spotted in the ever changing beer menu. Along with serving the usual assortment of IPA, Vienna style lager, and Hefeweisen, Bold Mariner steps out with some unique beers such as the Lucky Cat, a Japanese Style Pilsner. A dark lager with the name Night Moves was particularly good as was the CPO IPA.
Ample indoor and outdoor seating along with some nice ‘swag” for sale Unique venue looks very much like an old Victorian home
The food scene here is also very good, particularly if you like smoked meat. With Brisket, Ribs, and Craft Sausage served up by Bar-Q, along with southern styled side like red beans and rice, collard greens, and “Smack” and cheese along with a Bold Mariner brew to wash it all down, you really can’t go wrong. Try the pulled pork sandwich, its very good. Better yet, try the El Cerdo Borracho, a specialty sandwich with pulled pork and pork sausages layered with coleslaw and a killer BBQ sauce. Seems the smoker is only fired up Thur-Sun so keep that in mind when you visit.

For the non beer drinkers, there’s a limited wine menu available.
